Tournaments are held monthly, April through November, with the exact dates posted within the schedule. For most tournaments, you must be a member of the GWGA (check the schedule or monthly posters for any exceptions).
Most, but not all, will be a Scramble format. In this format, each team's players hit from the tee box, then the team members choose the best of the four shots for the next shot. All team members then play the second shot from that location, and again choose the best shot. Play continues in this manner until the hole is completed.
We play winter or paradise rules, which means the ball can be moved one club length in the woods, on the rough or in the fairway but no closer to the hole and must stay in the same type of terrain (woods, rough or fairway). On the green, the ball may be moved a putter head no closer to the hole.
If the ball goes into the woods and is found, and that is the chosen ball, the team has two options; 1) play the ball from within the woods, or 2) remove the ball from the woods, dropping it in the rough within one club length of the woods, on a line where it entered the woods and be assessed a one stroke penalty. If all the players balls are hit into the woods and believed to be lost, hit a provisional shot. If during the search none of the balls are found, use the provisional shot which is now the teams second shot and add a one stroke penalty.
Cash prizes are awarded for lowest to highest team score. Other cash prizes are closest to the pin, longest drive and closest to the line for men and women.
